Crysis 2 Will Look Identical On PS3 and 360

Every since its announcement earlier this month, gamers far and wide have been chomping at the bit to get their hands on Crysis 2. But the big question that many have been left asking, with Crytek being known for pumping out graphic intensive games, is whether or not the title will run and/or look better on the PlayStation 3 or the Xbox 360. Well, it looks like we’ve got an answer.

Outside of getting our hands on some actual screen shots, VG24/7 managed to snag an interview with Crysis 2 executive producer, Nathan Camarillo. Quite a number of things were discussed, including the possible differences between the PS3 and 360 versions of the game, to which Mr. Camarillo responded with the following:

The powerful thing about CryENGINE 3 is that it’s scalable, and it’s scalable for platforms. In the end, 360 and PS3 owners will probably get a very identically experience both visually and technologically.

We’re not going into details on that now, but in the end it’s all quality per platform. We want the best PC game, we want the best PS3 game, we want the best 360 game.

Additionally, Camarillo went on to say that each dedicated section of the development team are in constant competition, which should ensure a polished product regardless of platform.

We have two really strong internal teams on the programming side working on 360 and PS3 all the time, and they’re always in competition with each other. If you think “the internet” are going at each other about this, internally our developers are doing this as well.

For a week or two PS3 will look better, then the 360 guys go, “No, no, no, we won’t have that,” and they make the 360 version look and play better.

The Crysis series has seen tremendous success on the PC front, but can it succeed in a console market very much saturated by first person shooters? We’ll have to wait to find out when Crysis 2 hits the PS3, 360 and PC in late 2010, early 2011.

Should put to rest "Multiplats always look better on 360, or Tech Video showed PS3 looked better" until the game comes out.

Smart Move, letting PS3 version be better would cause less sales on X360!

ahhh, so what you are saying is that they are going to hold back the PS3 version to allow the 360 version to look as good.

This forum gets worse by the day.

OMG, I was kidding, on the reading you can see they are both identical and developers from each platform are trying theyr best.. was a joke! :)

It doesn't matter because the smart PS3 owners who give a crap about visuals are playing it on PC, the smart PS3 owners who don't care are playing it on the PS3 and then theres you posting on a forum.

Tease.

they will look similar maybe so similar that you wont notice a difference unless you are specifically looking but there will be differences so identical is not what he should have said very similar would have been better.

I am not even saying one will look better just different , you just have to do certain things differently on the two platforms.

anyway I wonder what the minimum specs will be for the PC version and how playable it is on that level of hardware, oh well time will tell.

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

I'd like to point out that Camarillo qualified his statement by saying "probably get a very identically [sic] experience". So without predicting whether identicality will be delivered or if not which console it will look better on. If indeed there is a qualitative visual difference between the console versions I hope people aren't going to vent their frustrations by claiming Camarillo lied.

Camarillo is being aspirational here, he's making no hard and fast guarantees. It is good to read that things are see-sawing between the consoles every step of the way. It should make for an excellent end result.

@ Squill: But no one's playing it yet. Unless you've got access to a time machine you're not letting us in on.

This is only what should be the case for every multiplatform game.

When they aren't the same it pisses people off like the company gave them a kick straight to the junk. Just think of all those PS3 fans (including myself) who didn't buy Bayonnetta when equal performances were not given to each platform.

Its pretty obvious.

Thats awesome. Crysis 2 is both 360 and PS3 exclusive in terms of development. 2 different teams pushing the boxes to the max.

Now noone here in this forum can say Crysis 2 can never be the best graphics because it's multiplat.

If anyone was trying hard to get more out of 360 or PS3 I would hope it was Crytek.
