@ImJustBayuum: Yes, it was the face value - which is why i mentioned it in the first place.
We can say the civil war was because of cotton, just aswell as say it was because of the slaves.
Naturally slavery was made illegal after the war - if you say you're fighting to get rid of the slavery, you better do something to it for yourself if you want to remain credible.
Naturally, there isn't just one reason for the war and slavery being just one of them. The point is, that in the union, south saw itself producing goods for the north to take advantage of them, with little gains for itself.
