tl;dr
This generation's been fantastic for Nintendo, they've sold millions of anything and everything, even if they're last when it comes to graphics. Clearly, it doesn't matter for most people.
... which is great, because inspiration and innovation are hard to get when games do nothing but imitating reality by throwing lots of polygons at the screen.
