General Info:::

Monster Hunter is not Poke'mon' and it is not a mmorpg, it is a game made in the same vein as Diablo 2. The concept is that you have access to various environments to explore and hunt monsters or simply get raw materials.

The game is gear centric, while this may sound normal and it is. The game is very streamlined on gear and raw materials to make them. This means you won't be doing a whole campaign to get your gear only to find that your gear is useless later on. The reason this doesn't happen is because the game does not have a level up system, so your character wont ever reach a point where your gear is the reason your dieing.

This doesn't mean gear has no effect but it does mean that preparation has a greater effect than gear. Preperation is very important, if your going for a monster it works best to know what kind of damage that target puts out and what they are weak against and equip yourself for that.

It's always good to have 1 set for each type of combat and then your all around set for that situation that you don't know what to expect. Clearly your all around wont be as great as the others but it should not score you any penalties in combat.

Some armors though they grant tuns of fire defense due to the source of the parts of the armor, they may also be weak to the same things the source of the armor is weak to.

Also wearing a complete set will usually score you a bonus of some kind.

Hunter Ranking is the next step, Ranking isn't your level but it is a track of your skill, essentially the most successful you are the higher your hunter rank. When you go to the mission merchant you can select the hunter rank you wish to participate in, the higher your rank the more ranks are available and that is the range of the hunter ranking effect.

As a side note, by defacto the higher your hunter rank, the better gear you can make as you'll be facing stronger targets.

-----------------------------

While weapons and armor upgrading is a plus the game comes down to reflexes and prediction, but upgrading is a tell tale process. As you progress through the game you usually get no help until you get the materials when it comes to crafting.

In other words a Rathalon Great Sword wont show up on the list of creatable weapons until you already have all or most of the parts needed.

On the plus side if you hunt Rathalons enough you'll eventually get enough materials to know what else you will need.
