If they announce more DS projects, then I think DQ for the Wii will be limited to existing stuff only like ports or re-releases besides DQX. I still think that it wasn't SE on their own who decided that DQX was going to be for the Wii, IMO Nintendo had somthing to do with it, ala FFXIII and the 360. |
Well, Hori has enough control over the IP (including holding copyrights) he's going to be the ultimate decision maker, even above Wada. I do think Nintendo made a deal for DQX, but I also think they likely went to Hori directly (I'd also guess DQ Swords was a result from direct talks with Hori). There's a reason why Wada basically leaves Armor Project alone, and they're the only vestige of old Enix left completely untouched. They're basically autonomous.
Realistically, I see a DQVII remake happening. Arte Piazza's more or less the full-time go to group for that, and they're finally done with the DS Zenethia trilogy. They usually work with an outside code house, which I think will probably be someone like Matrix, h.a.n.d. or Cattle Call on it (all of whom already have appropriate engines in place), and we'll probably see the game a year before DQX hits.
DQI-VI on Virtual Console seems likely too considering SE's penchant for saving announcements and releasing whole series in succession (FFI-VI, Romancing SaGa 1-3). I also think some WiiWare efforts are likely, as they'd be low cost, quick, and SE management (bizarrely) seems to favor WiiWare over the other digital console services (XBLA, PSN). For that I could see a Mystery Dungeon tie-in, or maybe an expanded version of DQ Wars. I also think you're going to see the tradition of Nintendo related studios (like Genius Sonority, Intelligent Systems, Brownie Brown, etc) involved in these sorts of spinoff games continue.
I agree we'll probably find out more after DQMJ2, and I agree that title likely seems like the DS sendoff. I could also still see a DQIX International though, depending on how much is added to the western release. I also still haven't ruled out the possibility of DQX skipping Wii entirely for the similarly specced 3DS though, I sort of suspect we're going to see a lot of Japanese games that would've made sense on Wii move to 3DS in the next two years. I can totally see DQX, MH4, SW4 and others doing that.
