No PS3 means worse blu-ray sales and install base, a media sony developed and part owns and is set to profit off every disk sold.
No current gen console means more developers turn to the microsoft console to make the biggest and best games about, developers like to brag. This would be a BIG loss to Sony and loss of commercial partnerships and ties.
Not participating in the HD conslole race woul have given Microsoft full control over this current gen, probably pushing Sony out of the marketplace completely. BAD move.
That's just a couple of reasons I can think of why this thread makes no sense at all.
