It's funny how Nintendo changed the industry. 5 years ago when I went to Gamestop, it use to be nothing but teen boys and young men buying games. Now that the Wii is here, I see kids, teen girls and parents buying games every time I go to Gamestop.

you must have been living under a rock, or just incredibly unlucky because kids and teen girls have always been buying video games.. ever since playstation. When gaming went from being a NERD thing, to a normal hobby.

pre NES..... Tech geeks

pre PS1..... Nerdy boys

pre Wii/DS.. Kids and young males

now ......... errm, I am trying to think of a demographic that hasn't really caught onto console gaming, despite what many think, mums and grandparents etc are still a tiny minority even on the DS (and the Wii is way behind the DS) but I suppose that they are now statistically relevant unlike before.

Women make up half the DS audience at least.  That's a pretty gigantic shift from Famicom, Game Boy or PlayStation.

Females maybe, but people over 40 are still a pretty small chunk
