actually, many people are doing just that. women bought the wii just for wii fit. tons of people bought the wii just for mario kart. lapsed gamers are buying the wii just for new super mario bros wii. i know several people that plan on buying a wii just for monster hunter tri.
and that is what i mean. people will buy a new console if it has exclusives they want that aren't on other consoles. i agree with happysquerral on this, where he brings up that people just care about the games, not the tech behind those games that made them possible. |
They bought the wii fit because "it looked fun", and bought mario karts because "the steering wheel looks fun", not because "Wow, another Mario Karts, I remeber playing that on the N64 etc".
On fanboy/nostalgic kids buy Nintendo games because of the title, because it sure as hell isn't to do with quality as bugger all has changed with them since their last outing on the GC.
People bought the wii because the pad looks fun, not because it offers a quality gaming experience. It's graphics are crap, the AI, physics, handlying etc is also crap, so a real gamer who looks at a game on more than face value would see wii games as being juvenile or party junk as the games have made no innovations to game genres whatsoever other than having a "fun" motion pad.
