Impossible? No it's quite logical.

My mum came up to me after watching a program that discussed the Wii.
This is what she said.

"I really liked the game that you do all the Olympic sports in, it looks REALLY fun!"

Then my brother asked her what she thought of the other game (SMG)

To which she replied

"Ohh the one where you save a princess? It looked very silly to me"

I think that explains it. Anyone who has never played a Mario game isn't going to be interested in it, but M&S? It looks like Wii Sports but with many more games.

Add in the fact that it is based on the Olympics which is very close to the hearts and minds of the UK people as we are hosting it in 2012.

It is also far more multiplayer friendly then SMG which is very important during the holidays when friends and family are coming around, they don't want to be watching you play SMG, they want to be playing with you - And what better game to be playing after the intro to Wii that is WiiSports? Well M&S ofcouse!

One last thing, Sonic was very popular here during the Saga MegaDrive days, but I'm not sure if that has any impact.
