Strangely enough, I researched Waluigi a few months ago (I get REALLY bored) and at the same time, looked up Wario. It seems that Wario isn't just Mario with the "M" turned upside down. His name comes from the Japanese word "Warui" or something like that. It means "evil". So it was just a word that meant evil and sounded a lot like "Mario". Looking at the name Luigi, you'd expect his evil doppleganger's name to be "Ruigi" or something like that but no. It turns out that "Warui" sounds pretty similar to "Luigi", too! So we got Wario and Waluigi, instead.
And Waluigi is still fucking lame.
