Its just being outcompeted by specialist devices/other companies doing it better.

1. Gaming it gets crushed by the DS.
2. Music it gets crushed by iPhone, iTouch, iPod + other similar.
3. Movies is sort of half dead/half alive but I doubt it'll survive the launch of the iPad/Courier + others.

I don't really think piracy comes into it, the DS is infact even easier to pirate and the PC is easier again to pirate and yet games still sell.

1. For games it has a different appeal and capabilities. Games that sell well on the PSP might be ignored on the DS, and vice versa.

2. Its not a convenient device for music. You don't need a giant screen if you just want to listen to music.

3. There are lots of cheap devices that play movies now, but iPad is not the device that will crush the PSP. The iPad is still far more expensive than a PSP and too big for convenience.

I think people underestimate the PSP. It currently doesn't sell a ton of software, but its a very popular device.

1. It sells only a little over a third of the software of the DS with more expensive games and likely will be the fourth largest platform for game revenue behind DS, iSeries, Android by the end of the year and falling quickly. This doesn't give Sony a good position to relaunch the system for a PSP2 either especially with the 3DS stealing the limelight.

2. Its a portable media player, so that has to be a part of the package.

3. The PSP is about as inconvenient however as the iPad which has a larger screen and much more useful capabilies in a practical sense.

1. As long as its profitable for Sony and holds a fair share of the market why wouldn't they make a PSP2? The Droid and iSeries is only good for selling simple budget games. They don't receive outstanding support either. If the 3DS is a better multimedia device than the PSP than Sony has a problem.

2. My point is it doesn't make a good MP3 player because of the size. So I agree it gets crushed by other MP3 players.

3. Its still much larger and more expensive. iPad's biggest competition is probably netbooks.
