Love/hate relationship. Like so many others, he's fallable and has made some bad decisions, and I don't support all his actions, but he does some things right too, and I can relate to him as a character (which puts him way ahead of Gordon Freeman, Jack from Bioshock and Isaac Clarke in my book).
All of this really came through in the third game though, because he really became a deeper and more fleshed out character there. He felt much more onesided in 1 & 2.
