I suspect this is both a defensive action against the iPhone by again defining the DS as a system which has capabilities for gaming above and beyond what a phone hybrid application can do and an aggressive action to move upstream and take whatever core market they can from Sony and perhaps its an attempt to go as far as to eliminate them from the market.
