It's really not that hard to comprehend.
Why are people proud of their children or friend's children" Because that ties back with them being good parents or what have you.
His console "proudness" just means that he is proud at his decision of console that somehow the choices he made are justified now. I agree it is silly to need people to validate you, but hey, that's his perogative.
