a "parallax barrier LCD" seems like a great choice for handhelds, since your eyes are closer to the screen, they view at at a much greater angle difference than they would if the screen was farther away
but that would make the 3D effect only possible for the person directly in front of the DS, but i don't think it'll be a big issue considering it's a handheld (designed for one person to use)
