Color restrictive 3D should not be included in these conversations, it's like comparing black and white to color TVs

Personally, I would say that nothing Sony has done really relates to what Nintendo is doing here (even without knowing the technology behind it). First off, the PS3 simply doesn’t have the processing power to produce games at (what we consider) PS3 quality while supporting stereoscopic 3D and HD resolutions; so it is fair to say that Sony has yet to release a 3D capable gaming system. Beyond that, releasing a 3D display that doesn’t require glasses is a pretty major innovation; and doing so in the handheld market space is unique. If the display technology actually works well, it could change the direction of 3D television (making Sony’s 3D displays obsolete) if it can be adapted to that market.
