Genres are neither hardcore or casual by definition. Games however can be hardcore or casual or indeed, even a mixture of the two.
Halo 3 is a game that is for both hardcore and casual gamers, most super successful games are. Some shooters are indeed hardcore and some are really quite casual. The stereotype that FPS are for hardcore gamers is unsurprisingly ignorant as things are never that clear cut but that does not mean there are not shooters for hardcore gamers.
