Okay, I'm sorry to get frustrated here, but I think people need to stop with the "once you play game X, then you'll agree that story games are good."
It's incredibly frustrating. I don't like story-driven gaming. DO NOT WANT.
This isn't just a passing fancy, or a weakly held belief. It's a conviction from years of experience; I absolutely, positively, strongly, passionately, powerfully hate story driven games. Can I say this more strongly? I think it's awful, terrible tripe, and I strongly hope that story-driven games die off, as multiplayer-focused games continue to surge in prominance.
I know these are strong words, but look at this from my view now. If anyone here asked for game recommendations -- with the specific caviat that they don't like shooters -- and then everyone responded with "well what about this shooter? You may like this one," or "I think this shooter here will change your mind," or "I doubt you've tried shooter Z, that's a game no one can hate," you'd get a little frustrated too.
Just accept that I think story driven games are inferior, and try to recommend things that seem like they'd appeal to me. This wasn't supposed to be a thread about me hating story driven gaming -- a fact that I've stated many times before without such controversy -- but about finding games that I can enjoy, and asking the community for help. Can we put this to rest now, or at least move the discussion to a different thread? I'd be HAPPY to discuss the issue. Very happy, in fact, because story driven gaming is one main reason why I've been so fervently hoping the Wii will win -- Nintendo has constantly resisted implementing heavy story in their games. LOVE to discuss the issue, but not here, please.
