 Halo made MS rich? WTF are you smoking? MS consistently makes more 3B USD PROFIT/quarter. Halo is a little drop on the 7B losses they took with the Xbox/360 businesses in the last 7 years.

Just so you have an idea how insignificant Halo is within MS, here is the last quarter's earnings per business unit (includes Halo 3):

Client  (windows):  revenue=4.1B, profit 3.3B

Server/Tools (again mostly windows): revenue=2.9B, profit 962M

Online Services: revenue=671M, LOSS 364M

Business (office): revenue=4.1B, profit 2.6B

Entertainment (xbox/zune): revenue=1.9B, profit=164M (first time they had a profitable quarter. They have an accumulated loss of 7B)

Now, Sony always lost money on PlayStation launch years but they make it back after about 3 years. This happened with PS1 and PS2 but I doubt it will happen with the PS3. The losses are way too large to make up in the next 2 years.
