 you could laugh at those products, but their's no denying those products makes them bucket loads of money, well not so much with Vista but Vista in the long run will be their cash cow.

 Vista will either be their cash cow or the beginning of their big fall. Most companies don't want switch to Vista... maybe they will force it on consumers with new PC purchases but with Macs and Linux and a new generation of kids that are very proficient with computers why would people stay with Windows only? Right now most people use Windows since they don't want to learn new stuff. I switched to Mac when Mac OS X come out (~6 years ago) and when I did it my wife almost killed me. Now she keeps reminding me how happy she is that we switched.

MS needs a non-Windows, non-Office business unit to be profitable and if they drop from the console hardware business is just because of that, not because they can't afford to keep losing 1B/year on their xbox/zune businesses. They are still making a sh*t load of money out of WindowsXP and Office.

The best way to break into a market is to lose money on it. MS doesnt really care as long as they stay in the race and eventually have a true foothold in those markets they see that profit can be achieved. THey are willing to lose money in order to break into these markets where most people trust the other consoles
