Additionally, those people who adore cinematic games quite often also happen to hate Nintendo's games. Regarding NSMB Wii, the people you are talking about either had no clue or were biased. M:OM doesn't have wide appeal and so far it's not unlikely that it will fail to sell a million copies. |
Yes, obviously we're talking about different scales, but believe me that it was easy to think that the vast majority of NSMBW already bought a Wii for previous Mario games, not for bias, but simply due to the success the best previous Mario games for Wii and Wii itself already had. Instead it oviously moved HW, most probably combining several mechanisms: directly persuading some new users, but also increasing the critical mass of noteworthy games up to a point that more users were persuaded not by a single game, but by a wide set of them, and also, the marketing for the game acted in synergy with Wii marketing and Xmas season. And there is surely something else I don't figure out now.
About people hating "typical" Nintendo games, Wii offers a wider choice to them, so I think only rabid haters will exclude categorically to purchase a Wii. I haven't loved Mario games for almost 15 years now (after playing some Mario and Wario games on my sister's and a former gf of mine's Gameboys, I actually went as far as hating Mario for years and I don't like portables even now), nevertheless I'm attracted by Wii.
