Try something new people, god is it so bad to try new things?
If it doesn't work they can always go back to the tried and true formula.
Not enough people actually innovate in this world... just copy, paste and adjust.
Its one of the reasons I will always love Nintendo even with their negatives, they are part of the few companies in the world who really try new things.

As far as the whole system seller argument, you can't always focus on system sellers. You HAVE to take a step back and satisfy your customers as well. I see this as Nintendo hearing the hardcore fans asking for more 'core' games so they put their Metroid team to work with Team Ninja to provide it. I have a feeling they are working on a Fzero/starfox like 'core' game as well for 2011.

If you keep focusing on 'raking' in new people then you will start to loose the very customer base you are trying to build. Nintendo knows this and is trying to balance their resources between expansion and retention of their customer base. Its not easy, especially with the diverse crowd Nintendo has in its user base. my 2 cents :)
