M:OM, a cinematic game, competes directly against the bulk of HD games. That alone reduces its chances to move hardware. Additionally, those people who adore cinematic games quite often also happen to hate Nintendo's games.

Regarding NSMB Wii, the people you are talking about either had no clue or were biased. M:OM doesn't have wide appeal and so far it's not unlikely that it will fail to sell a million copies.

That's why this may actually be a good thing. It goes against the grain, which means it diversifies, potentially selling the game.

I have heard of a few people who are considering buying a Wii just for this. They're the kind of people who think that Nintendo is finally "getting it"

Not a viewpoint i agree with at all, but a lot of people find cinema and these action-y games to be the future of games (i believe we had a hilarious editorial around here to that effect), and have lost interest in Nintendo franchises because Nintendo refuses "to grow up with their audience"
