Considering that XIII did more on PS3 and 360 than XII in NA week 1, it still doesn't make sense. How is it bad for Final Fantasy when the numbers have improved and probably would have even if it was still PS3-only, or at least matched XII's #s?

XIII Week 1 - (PS3/360) - 672,000
The fanbase is split a bit, but the numbers state that XIII is performing better than XII did. It seems like people aren't checking the numbers to see how XIII is ACTUALLY performing for a Final Fantasy.

Why compare it to XII?
Its the first FF of this generation so it should be compared to FFX imo.
Also in this gen games have much shorter legs than last gen, so its obvious that FF13 wont come near to the sales of FF12.

It's like MGS4. It was compared to Snake Eater, not Sons of Liberty.
Besides, we don't have the data for FFX's US Week 1 sales.

Even IF we compare FF13 to FF12 (what is stupid imo just like comparing MGS4 to MGS3 instead of MGS2) it still wont reach 5,7 million.
5,5 million units at MOST, the game doesnt have the best word of mouth, no MP and there are many good games coming out and games that are out that are much better than it - FF13 (going by metacritic)

- Final Fantasy games have never had multiplayer, so that won't matter mcuh.
- The game is getting bad word of mouth? News to me.
- It's already nearing 3 million on PS3 alone, so 5.5mill total is too low.
- Comparing it to the most recent in the series is the best to go on. You'll know if it has gained fans/lost fans.
- Too many good games/games that are better than it are pure opinion.

- Didnt matter much in the past but now games need multiplayer or the average joe will just look at the back of the game and say: "hmm, 1 player? 60 bucks? okay, going to get mw2 instead"
- Bad word of mouth comparing to the last games (except FF12) just look at the amazon user reviews - 4 stars (3,5 for 360 version) isnt the best word of mouth to be honest, for such a franchise
- yea, including japan sales where the FFs have really short legs... :/
- but the first game of a franchise in a generation tends to sell the best (at least in the last gen..)
- there are much higher reviewed games on metacritic (professial opinions)
and much higher reviewed games by gamers, on amazon.com for example (opinions by the people who buyed and played the game)
