Now, I'm not saying price can't be a hinderance, but reducing price won't magically boost sales either. There is also the issue that the PS2 (typically used to prove this 70% thing) spent a lot less time over $200 than it did under $200.

Yeah I think the majority of the generation is already done. This generations hardware sales to date (Wii, 360, PS3) = 77.17% of last gens (PS2, Xbox, GC) hardware sales to date. Even taking into account predicted increased demand this generation, I think its safe to say the generation is more than half-way done. A $200 PS3 slim and 360 Elite will produce a really nice boost but those who get the systems then will be late adopters (ok maybe not. Maybe theyll still be considered late majority).
