400k for FFXIII on PS3 is pretty dissapointing i think. Everywhere you go or if you turn on your tv or pc you see adverts for it everywhere. The advertising for it has been massive. To see it sell nearly half of what BC2 sold on 360 is very shocking to me. Yes one is a fps game and the other a RPG. But so is Dragon Age and that almost matched those sales. Mass Effect 2 nearly doubled those sales in its 1st week.
So if we roll back 6 months with all the hype, all the threads on here, the E3 announcement etc etc would people have expected it to sell just 400k on its 1st week? Can you call as series AAA with those kind of sales? Because if you do means your have to start calling a lot more games AAA if 400k is the boundry.
Another thing is what happens if we roll forwards a week when we see GOW3's numbers posted and they are similar to this FFXIII effect for both hardware and sales? PS3 went up around 15k on last week with FFXIII release. Will GOW3 really push hardware up further then that?
One thing is for sure, this week is PS3's big week. Beyond that they don't have the strength in line up of titles to match this weeks again this year. Unless GT5 comes out this year, which it most likely won't in my opinion.
Any other week and i would say those were great numbers. But this was the first FF game of this gen, so much hype for it over the years. To be happy with just 400k is just weird to me.
