Have Microsoft solidified themselves as a gaming giant equal to Sony?

If you want to be technical then yes , sony does way more software and hardware than MS BUT that is only because they have 3 platforms on the market compared to MS having only one......if you want to evaluate brand power you need to compare both of them on an equal platform and that is comparing the 360 and ps3.

The 360 sells more software in the U.S and has a higher market penetration in the U.S than the ps3......that is the jist of my logic.

I think I can agree with you if we just compare PS3 AND XBOX 360, in the U.S MARKET mainly, many view it as an equal choice or even a superior choice to playstation, but that does not mean everyone else thinks the same..

 

Clearly though microsoft did elevate themselves greatly in the U.S market, SONY brougth themselves down with the 599 ps3.
