Nope. If I had a DS to play them on I would def get them. I'm still rocking the Game Boy Pocket and have only owned Blue. I played Leaf Green and Sapphire on emulators though last year. Great games.
You might be in the age where you might be embarrassed to play them but just don't tell anyone is what I say. In a few years you should be good to play them openly if that's what you're worried about.
