Both Ren & Stimopy and Rocko's Modern Life were more ****ed up than I ever could have realized watching them as a kid. Seeing them recently, you just notice so much they stuck into those cartoons, I can't imagien how half of it got past Nickelodeon. Maybe that's why they don't make them like that anymore.
Then again, pretty much every generation touts their childhood as the golden age of cartoons. The generation growing up on the cartoons now, as inferior as we may see them compared to our childhood, are going holds those shows as treasures just like we do.
