Actually, I think he's on the payroll of third party publishers. You'll notice he spends the first month or so after a hardware price cut praising the cheaper console, then immediately starts talking about how important the next price cut will be. He does this with all hardware, and it doesn't serve Sony, MS, or Nintendo, it serves the publishers who want the hardware companies to subsidize the install base so they can sell more software.
Ask Pachter what Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo need to do to win the console war, and he'll tell you cut price, cut price, cut price, and nevermind the software.
