This is true, last fall was Sony's real userbase push and it worked out wonderfully (worldwide, not just US). This is cyclical too, last year Microsoft had pretty much the same stance as Sony this year (profitability > numbers) which is why they just SKU reshuffled in leu of a real price drop. I think this summer or fall is when you'll see Microsoft's "real" response to the slim...
