Interestingly. FF13  is only just considered by the media as the number 1 JRPG  this gen.

We know production wise it is above the others by some way. It would appear that according to the average scores that games like LO, TOV and ES are all around the sam level as FF13. What fo you guys think. JRPG's have taken it hard this gen.

Here take a look.

Based on Meta.

Final Fantasy 13      =        82 PS3       ( 83 360 )

Eternal Sonata        =         79 360      ( 80 PS3 )

Tales Of Vesperia                =         79

Lost Odyssey          =        78

On the same token, while media has a heavy bias against JRPGs this gen, it seems many fans within the JRPG community itself seem to only be focusing on JRPGs on 'consoles'.  And that's the biggest problem.  With 90% of JRPGs coming out on handhelds, because oh...Japan is focused on the Handheld market this gen, its no wonder JRPGs in the west are being overlooked.  Because even the people trying to rally support for JRPGs aren't even paying attention to where the vast majority of JRPGs are.

If all you're looking for in a JRPG are high budget console productions with 'the best graphics', then perhaps that's why people are getting less interested in the genre and saying its 'lacking in content'.

I say first of all, forgot what the media scores JRPGs, because its well known that they've been downscoring JRPGs since last gen.  Its like asking the Academy Awards to give best picture to an international film.  Its not going to happen.  And second of all, start actually looking at ALL the JRPGs.  Which means, you need to actually look at some handheld games.  Which is, you know, where nearly all the JRPGs are at.

^ this man speaks the truth. Most of the JRPG's released this gen have been on the handhelds and thats not going to change any time soon. And considering that lots of JRPG's on handhelds have a 90+ metacritic rating, its pretty obvious that those are the systems of choice for JRPG's this gen you guys need to learn to accept that.
