| WEWdeadeye said: Mummelmann's argument about the short attention span of the casual consumers is already evident today. Look at the sales of all the top games that have come out recently. MP3, SMG, Zack/Wiki, were all huge under performers compared to the amount of hype (and estimates on this site) that they were receiving. The Wii has far and away exceeded everyone's expectations, I'll give the Nintendo fans that. Even I have been debating buying one, but I realize that there are only 2 games that I even want on the platform. As much fun as it was at my friends house, mainly because there were a few of us playing at once, after playing it for a while the hype wore off for me. This isn't something I would want to play by myself, it seems really like much more of a social gaming system. Everyone can laugh at each other while you look like a fool waving your arms in the air, whereas I just felt like a fool when I was at his house alone getting down with a mirror right above the TV....oh the memories still haunt to this day. On a more serious side of things, I just don't understand how people think its realistic for the Wii's demand to keep up like this. I mean, you can't look at an previous market trends to judge how the Wii will perform because it broke the mold in terms of the old adages of console gaming, but it seems to me most of these posts are more wishful thinking, or just trying to rub stink in the doubters faces, just because they have a more realistic view on things that differs with theirs. |
Well I have yet to see any legetimate reasons why Wii will slow down, you say casual gamers have short attention spans becuase of the fact certain games dont sell, could it be that they just dont care about those games, not everyone likes lord of the rings or star wars for example. People say Casual gamers will get bored, and maybe they will, but its unlikely since DS hasn't slowed down, and even if they do, so what they'll still buy the system before they get bored
