I don't think they realise that the consumer decides whether a console lives on, not the company. Sony just doesn't realise it because it's never been 2nd or 3rd.
However i do see the PS3 having a lifeline which will be nintendo's next console if it is only as powerful as the ps3 as it will thrive on ports.
