Trying to switch to the Nintendo model isn't possible for them Bod, their management and company structure doesn't allow it, notice they operate on trying to educate the consumer on why their products should be bought, rather than what will make more people want to buy their product, like Sony trying to push blu-ray, most consumers don't know about HD picture, ad theink they are watching HD even when they are not, yet Sony tries to educate them on why they should buy Blu-ray, if Blu-ray was something the market really wanted they wouldn't need to do so, DVD wasn't needed to be educated, people knew it was something they wanted, they could tell the difference just by looking over VHS |
See again you comparing apples to oranges, as Bod stated this is what Nintendo does, this is there spine so to say. So from YOUR point of view your looking for "innovative" software, which is fine :) nothing wrong with that at all. But don't assume that innovative = greatness, as stated Sony is a Hardware company, a Movie producer, etc. What's say the customer wants a great entertainment system to be the center of there living room? My PS2 played games, dvd's, and had digital audio output to my surround. Nessesary? Not by any stretch of the word, but I will say it was definately a deciding factor of where to put my money.
I buy a console based on functionality, it's a known fact that EVERY console will have more than it's fair share of GREAT games, it's the nature of the beast, however if you ONLY consider "great" to be innovative, then your in for a great dissapointment, I try to keep an open mind and see past a games controls, now the Wii is a fine console no doubt, but aside from gaming I have no real use for it. And as an "entertainment system" that's simply not good enough for me.
So I'm going to agree with bod, it's definately possible to create something as revolutionary as Nintendo, it's just not a necessity, but the possibility is definately there. Hell Sony helped get the ball rolling for CD's on consoles :P which has saved all markets TONS on production costs over the years.
