I'm also very interested in Linux for PS3. I need me some native Matroska support, among other stuff.

As far as PC's go, I'm great with Windows, but I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, I expect a PS3 Linux discussion to commence.

For The PS3, I stick with Ubuntu's distro.  For your MKV support, get Mplayer and just set up a Samba Server for easy access to your windows based network (for ease of streaming and whatnot).

For the PS3 Stick with PS3 , Linux on PS3 is crap , heck any other OS on Ps3 is crap.

While I completely agree on the feature lacking Linux on the PS3, for native MKV support its about all you have.  While you can always transcode and set up a Media Server, running a simple Samba server + Mplayer on a Linux distro via the PS3 will always work better.   That is all that I use Linux for on my PS3 (streaming all audio/video formats and playing them via Mplayer).

And Xen, if you are not going to stream them (but say use them from an external HDD, or the like) there is no need to set up a Samba Server.
