The story so far is OK. Some of the dialogs were corny. I played only 2 hours. So it's too early to judge. The battle system on the other hand is brilliant, especially when it gets more complex in chapter 3. You might find it boring in the first 2 chapters since you can't learn anything during those 2 chapters.
Graphically, the game is beautiful and the cut-scenes are impressive. Even on the Xbox 360. As for the music, it fits the game like a glove. The voice acting is good, except Vanille. She's extremely annoying.
I like Lightning so far. Snow is OK. Vanille is annoying. Not a big fan of Hope. And I LOVE Sazh.
Final Fantasy XIII is the kind of game that gets better with each minute. The first couple of minutes on Chapter 3 blows everything on Ch.1 and 2. Keep in mind that I'm only 2 hours and 20 minutes in.
Chapter 1 - 6.2/10 (sorry Darth)
Chapter 2 - 7.9/10
I played only 10-15 minutes of chapter 3. It's WAY better than the previous chapters. So don't worry.

Yeah FFX's start was AWFUL!
in that regard FF12's starting bits were very good (compared to 10).

I'm disappointed at how the game started.

I loved how FFX started (story-wise). Seeing some otherworldly being sucking up the entire city with Auron talking to it and telling Tidus that this was the start of his story REALLY had me interested in the plot.

The CGI was amazing ofcourse
but fightning those weird monsters on modern zanarkand, then being sucked up & being in that weird & dull place.
Then meeting Riku & going tot hat BOOOORING water cave.BOORING music.
The game TRULY began for me when we set foot outside Besaide on our way to the boat that takes ut to luca...that when they explained how to change members in battle & ofcourse thats when we FIRST heard the best FF Battle Theme EVER! I'm not sure how far into the game this was, a few hours I guess.
Then the amazing CGI cut scene with kimahri attacking tidus & then that fight.
After that the game remained awesome!
