Or maybe not the 3rd party developers, i would believe it's for the consumers. Nintendo usually isn't so fond of good graphics, but since 3rd party (to which Nintendo obviously is counting for graphics) isn't doing much about it, Nintendo has to start making games with better graphics. Anyway their goal is to raise the bar.
