The unexplored planets in ME1 is the most unforgivable design decision. They are truly terrible and I question the tastes of anyone who complained when they removed these in ME2. A lot of the problems you mentioned are remedied in the PC version (framerate, texture pop-in, inventory system) so no complaints there.
I still prefer ME1 over ME2 though.
