The "Zeeebs" pronunciation makes more sense to American english speakers, though i imagine that "Zeh-base" sounds more natural even to the ear of the Queen's English, and especially to non-English speakers. It can often be in english anyway that two "e"s surrounding a letter is pronounced simply by making the first E a long E, and the second silent, like the word "cede."
