Haha it is so true but I think it could be said of a lot of things.  The most hypocritical thing in the gaming industry, is people want to see something different but at the same time they want something familiar and similar.  EA stated something like this awhile ago when talking about Dead Space sales and why new IPs are so hard to sell.  That is why I repsect Nintendo so much for doing a little bit of both by doing fan services along with taking things in new directions whether in a series or the industry as a whole.

Well it is something I've been noticing a lot lately.  Just one of those things that you have to deal with when it comes to "public opinion" which I've never been a fan of haha.  But in this industry there has to be a mix of things that evolve and things that revolutionize.  If everything thing just evolves then over saturation occurs (1983 crash American video game market crash or recent casual game/shovelware game fallout).  But if everyone focuses on being the next big thing, which doesn't necessarily mean revolutionize but not simply copying and pasting, then there is no foundation for the industry and you either have a boom or bust for each game and each company which is unstable. 

But yea gamers only hurt themselves if they become indecisive on everything.  That is why I try to judge each game on its own merits rather than what I think it should be.  Need to rate games on good and bad, not similar and dissimilar.  Some of the best games of this generation to me have been ones that are completely off the wall to me such as De Blob.
