There are always shortages! LOL Wii is just a funny piece of hardware at that. I think the decline is probably due to a lack of Wii Fit etc.

I wonder what the next generation hardware will look like? Probably $250 again but with a camera and X86 processor for PC compatibility?

What are you talking about? Shortages ended in 2008, they've only started again this December. The decline due to a lack of Wii Fit makes no sense, Wii Fit plus is selling more than Wii Fit was in 09 before WF+'s release.

If shortages did not exist as an explanation for Wii being so much down YoY, the fad would officially be over.

I thought I saw mention of the Wii being in short supply as well, oh well. Its no biggie.

If the Wii is infact declining then I don't particularly see a problem. The console had a lot of adoption very quickly which is ideal for Nintendo making a profit quickly. Its perfectly understandable because there was little holding back interested people from buying a new console and they got appealing software out quickly which drove adoption. So if the release a successor it'll be a rinse/repeat process really and they can easily respond with new hardware in 2011 and take advantage of the portability of modern console games to build up a library quickly.
