That's not a problem with PSN, but with Sony not including it with a purchase of a PS3.

I think it's good. Not everybody is into multiplayer and therefore needs a mike.

That's like saying Sony should have saved money and not included wireless in the console... after all, not everyone wants to go online.

The more peripherals included in a console purchase, the higher likelyhood of their use. To round out their "online experience" that they wanted to push so much, a microphone should have come with the console. After all, isn't their tagline "It does everything."?

I would also like to add Sony included everything else in the console why not add a cheap $5 mic?

That is pretty much my point. It's not as if a mic adds $50 to the console price. They're cheap. I'm sure they could have rigged a USB mic that plugs into the controller rather easily.

While some USB mics work with the ps3, they all have to be plugged into the console itself.

I agree with Akvod. I think a lot of mics would just end up on ebay if Sony bundled a mic with the ps3. Not everyone does online multiplayer, and even among those that do, some are perfectly content being mute. There were very few people in Warhawk who used voice chat outside VGC matches. I would be delighted if I could find a game with 2-3 other people using headsets on a team of 12. And that's in a game that was available bundled with a headset.

I haven't done a lot of online gaming on xbl, but from my understanding some people set it so they only voice chat with people on their friends list. Couldn't that be as bad as the ps3 situation considering they have anyone not on their friends list forcibly muted?
