the base is shrinking because of the variety. THere are litereally hundreds of such sites now, ours being one of them. Plus, IGN is kind of slow and takes a while to navigate. At this juncture they have two strategies: change their structure and appeal to larger base, or continue on their current base while increasing the value of their site by offering contests and the like.
They haven't been losing readers because of their views, but because they are no longer the go-to site. Back in the day, there were like 2 big sites. Now there are a dozen, and a hundred more niche sites.
