I don't understand your logic...because we're smarter than all the other species on Earth, we're smarter than 99% of the universe?? How do you know Earth isn't the "dunce" of the universe, or that the universe is VERY large, and perhaps we're more like, 51 on the list?

 I think he's trying to use the diverse range of life on earth to suggest that other planets would have multitudes of animals an vegetation without self awareness. It's the fairly standard "I'm sure there are life on other planets, but we don't know in what form" argument. Which is a very logical argument. I am of the same line of thinking. If it can happen here, it can happen on some of the other billions of billions of planets. We just don't know what it would be like.

 

The only thing we can ever truly know about extra terrestrial life is that it sure as hell wasn't in that video.
