ED was one of the best games last gen, any system, any genre, any whatever. I was, and still am, saddened that it only managed to sell a few hundred thousand. It's always a bummer when an ambitious and original game like this, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Shenmue, or Ico fail to get the sales they deserve. If you have a Cube or Wii, do yourself a favor and get this game.
I loved the insanity effects, some of which were extremely clever. The character's themselves were passable, but some of the worlds and the lighting effects were fantastic. I see some complaining about the controls, but they were as intended for a game of this nature. If it had a faster, blistering pace to the controls(like Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry), it would have been a disservice to the game. I've still got my fingers crossed for a sequel. :)
About what led me to get the game... The first thing that got my attention was hearing Dyack say it was heavily inspired by Lovecraft stories. I was sold on it right there. The insanity effects also sounded too good to pass up. No-brainer for me.
