You need more copies of the game and either they need larger review staff which means more money or they review less games which means they get less traffic.

It's a pretty lose-lose situation for them.  They might gain the respect of forum-goers, but forum-goers and people who constantly read gaming blogs are a pretty insignificant part of the gaming population.

But doesn't this minority of the gaming population make up the majority of the people who visit gaming websites?
