A Final Fantasy commercial with R&B feels very weird. If they used J-Pop instead, it would scream "game for animecon nerds only!" But if they had traditional Nobuo Uematsu type of fare, it wouldn't feel out of place for a western commercial and it would suit the game better to boot.
But hey maybe Square-Enix knows something I don't. I'm not one to be all like "it's not authentic japanesu, booo" but still it does seem weird to see R&B used in a FF13 commercial.
That all said, I scratch my head wondering why Final Fantasy even became popular in the western world in the first place. Final Fantasy (and jrpgs in general) has never struck me as a game that makes for great western commercials. But yet the advertising paid off anyway and FF7, FF8 and FFX became huge commercial hits here (FF9 and FF12 less so because they weren't so commercialized in the west but they still drew a lot of buyers based on the FF name alone)
