Why did you buy your Nintendo Wii?

Eh, the X360 is cheaper. The longer this gen goes on, the less this seems to ring true.

Anyway, my main reason is definitely the local multiplayer games. Nintendo has always had the best local multiplayer (though the GC wasn't so hot). Stuff like brand loyalty, exclusives, or motion controls are either related or a result of this. The Wii's whole focus on fun tends to do its job better when involving more than one person in the room.

Of course, Zelda and other single player games are a major factor as well, but since I feel the HD consoles generally match this, it's not as big a deal (or at least, not the reason it's my preferred console).

You do know the 360 wasn't always the cheaper console correct?

I just don't think most people bought it simply due to its price, that seems kind of silly. I'd say the same about the cheaper DS vs the PSP.

greenmedic88 made a good point as well.

The cheap price it had at the beginning of this gen of $250 (360 was like $400 or something and PS3 was $600) is what helped it gain momentum though. From there the rest is history.

Now some jerk took my post as trolling and reported it which is stupid, I wasn't trolling, I was just trying to mention how price is always the biggest factor in people buying anything, let alone consoles. Price is everything. If value was what people wanted everyone would own a PS3 because you get the most for your money, but that isn't the case.

On topic: The main reason I WOULD buy a wii (I don't have one) would be exclusives I guess. Mario is pretty cool and there's other good games too.

See now that's completely opinion, there's plenty of people that see a video game consoles value as the games it offers, others see it as features, and for some others it could be as simple as price.  Why would people want to buy a PS3 at 600 during the beginning of this gen if they could get the games they wanted on 360 or Wii cause they don't give two flips about HD, Blu-ray, true surround sound, media sharing, etc. because they don't own nor care about the equipment needed to take advantage of it?  This might not be norm for the "core" internet crowd but it is common amongst others.
