EDIT: In response to the actual topic at hand, I wouldnt buy from ebay. 500-600 bucks is outrageous.  Granted I dont have a kid begging me for one.  Im sure its worth it to tons of people.  Sounds like you have a pretty good idea of how to get one.  Whatever it takes, man.
